The Isle of Wight project was oneof the wettest we have seen for a few years, but with the help of the dilligent staff and also the kindness of others, the Children had a brilliant time and were not phased by the rain.
This year we took 65 Children away from Worcester, Coventry and Birmingham-all from different homes and backgrounds.
After a couple of days on the campsite we usually use, we agreed that the children needed to move to somewhere indoors so that they could have a dry permanent base, as we had been defeated by the elements. After an appeal on the local radio station we have tons of offers of help flood in, amongst those were Morrisons and Tesco who provided us with sleeping bags and stationary.
A huge thanks goes to the amazing Kingswood Centre who allowed us to stay for free in their brand new wooden lodges for three nights. We were able to use the main yurt for our evening meetings and the children and staff really enjoyed sleeping there. We are very grateful for their genorosity.
A further thank you to the URBAN Saints organisation on the Isle of Wight, who also allowed us to use their facilities in the day time. The children went there to use the swimming pool, lazer tag and other activities that were completly free of charge.
Thank you to all memebers of staff that came, we recognise that it was a challenging time with the weather difficulties, but are grateful that everyone pulled together and worked hard to give the children a good holiday.
I'm busy working on my blog posts. Watch this space!
